Quarantine Chronicles: Day 1 The Plan

Hi everyone! Normally my posts are all pretty much planned out. Not this one. I’m going to start out by letting everyone know that my daughter has been quarantined for almost two weeks now. She was notified as a close contact, and as we all know that means quarantine. Now, due to that, instead of only her getting tested, we all decided to get tested. The result was that someone in our household tested positive for COVID-19. Before going any further, I want to let everyone know that other than a positive test result, we are all healthy and are not showing any symptoms of the Coronavirus.

This does mean that our entire household has to quarantine for 3 WEEKS. Ooooofffff. I have very mixed feelings about this. I am nervous, and a little worried. I can also look at this quarantine as a new beginning of sorts. There is so much that can be done in three weeks. Except go anywhere.

One major thing occurred to me: I need to keep some sort of schedule, and set some goals. Otherwise I will lose my darn mind. We are late to the quarantine party here! Last school year the kids all got switched to distance learning, but everyone was doing that. Bubs and I never missed any work due to the Coronavirus. Hmmm… So, I am winging it here. Another new obstacle.

I am Going To Continue my “Self Care September Challenge”

In one of my last posts Self Care September Challenge, I declared that I was going to dedicate the whole entire month to self care. Something that oftentimes gets pushed to the wayside. Truth be told, I haven’t actually been able to spend much time taking care of myself. Not the way I wanted to anyway. I did mention that it was one of the worst times possible, though.

I can take some advice from myself, and actually do some of those things I wanted to focus on for me. Writing was one of those things, and I am happy to announce that I will be documenting my quarantine. I can’t say what you should expect though.

Deep Clean The House

In my post How We Keep Up With Chores in Our Blended & Busy Home I explained a bit about how we schedule our household chores and duties. I’d like to think that our home is pretty well kept, and clean. Even though we have a neat little chart posted up on our refrigerator with who is supposed to do what and when, areas still get forgotten. For example, it wouldn’t hurt to clear some of the shelves and dust those, or vacuum behind the couches and TV stand.

Another thing is that it seems like no matter how hard I try, things always seem to accumulate. A couple times a year, I like to go through the house and clear out things that we don’t use. I haven’t done this since the beginning of the year, and I think it’s time to give it another go. It always feels good to clear some clutter.

What About A Schedule?

I know that I should still get up early, and do my morning routine. My biggest thing right now is that I think I’m going to give myself a couple of days to sleep in. I can start on a schedule next week. Is that terrible?

I know that I will want to get myself on some sort of schedule during quarantine, I just haven’t figured out what that is yet. It might even have to be one of those things that I figure out as I go. Do I go all in and clean in one week, get it all over with? Or space it out and do a little bit at a time. I have a habit of having an “all or nothing” attitude.

Even though we are quarantined, we all still have different things we need to do. Khalub and Cassidy still have to attend school virtually every day. This also means they will have homework and other things to do. One thing I want to try and incorporate into my schedule is a daily walk, or some sort of exercise at least once a day. We’ll see.

As For Today

It was about five minutes before we left work for lunch when we got the phone call. I immediately logged myself out of my google accounts on my work pc and started shutting down the computer. Everything after that was a bit hectic.

Of course immediately we had to call and notify family, friends and schools. Living in the small town that we do, word seems to travel quickly. We didn’t want any of our family members finding out through the grapevine that it was someone in our household that tested positive for COVID-19. Not to mention, we had to make sure everyone stays away. The rest of the day I was just trying to sort my thoughts, and come up with a plan. As you can see, my plan is half ass at best. LOL. I am determined to figure it out!

Since I am so late to the quarantine party, what did or what are all of you guys doing with your free (or maybe not so free) time? I may need some ideas and ways to keep me sane! Let me know in the comments.

  1. You can almost feel the chaos through the writing…damn!
Hope it all pans out calmly and you all make it through unphased and healthy. Looking forward to more selfcare items though. They’re great!

    1. Hi Zoe! (I hope that’s the correct name). Yes, it was so very chaotic, and still is. I still have to email the schools with the ACTUAL date of release from quarantine, because we didn’t get the email until late last night. I am very hopeful that we will all come out of this happy and healthy.

Thank you so much for the feedback on the self care items!! I am still looking forward to writing more about it as well, and I am really happy to hear that you enjoy that! Have a wonderful day. 🙂

  2. Sorry, that stinks. I have been in quarantine as well and am actually free tomorrow – finally! I tested negative but I was having symptoms early last week and my state’s orders are that even if a test is negative, we’re supposed to behave like it was positive (if symptomatic) because there have been cases of false negatives. :/ So, yeah. Once I started feeling better, I have kept myself busy doing projects and homeschooling my son. 🙂

    1. Hi Valerie! I am sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well, but I am super happy to hear that you’re feeling better.

Isn’t it so frustrating with false negatives and false positives? I’ve heard of so many “false” test results, and even inconclusive test results. I bet you’re super happy to be getting out of quarantine. Today is only technically the first full day, and my mind is going kind of crazy. I think I will have to make a list of the things I actually want to get done. Both of my kids that are quarantined here are teens, so their virtual schooling doesn’t really require anything more than me making sure they are actually doing their work. Best of luck to you, and thank you for taking the time to comment. 🙂

  3. I’m glad you posted this. I’ve been home from work all week with a toddler who tested negative for covid but can’t go back to day care until her cold symptoms are gone. I GET it, mentally. Emotionally I am losing my s***. This is all really hard. I get angry with myself sometimes for feeling like it’s so hard when I know I have it easier than many, and I’m working on being ok with just experiencing the emotions and not judging myself for them.

Maybe a deep clean and declutter of the house is just the mental clearout I need! 😉

    1. Hi! Thank you so much for your kind words, it really means a lot to me. It is so frustrating. I never ever thought that we would be living in a time such as this. It is so tough emotionally, and worrisome. You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself for feeling like this is hard – because IT IS HARD. Yes we may feel like we have it easier than some, but remember that everyone has their own individual battles. That is what makes us all so unique. You’re right in that you definitely shouldn’t judge yourself, but I think we are all guilty of it. Even if some of us hide it better than others. 😉

I really hope your little one gets over their cold soon, and starts to feel better. If you do a declutter, let me know how it goes! For me it is so therapeutic. 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful day! 💖
